Kitchen trends are much like fashion; every year brings the new big look. The problem is that buying the latest hot new “in” jeans is MUCH cheaper than updating your kitchen. This is why we custom design your whole house, including the kitchen with longevity in mind!
We believe that the kitchen sets the tone for the entire home. It’s the workhorse and the center of everything that happens. During the design process, we want you to think not only about your vision and lifestyle but also think functionality. Your custom kitchen should sing with personality which makes choosing the finishes such as kitchen cabinetry, backsplash, color palette, flooring, and kitchen countertops so very important.
Kitchen Countertops
Kitchen countertops or as we like to call them, the centerpiece, are brimming with character. There are many available options in terms of color and material choices including quartz, granite, marble, wood, and green or sustainable kitchen countertop options. Contrasting kitchen countertops with cabinetry color will add major drama to your kitchen design.
Kitchen Cabinets
Among some of the latest trends in kitchen cabinetry, the most perplexing is replacing upper cabinets with open shelving. This fashionable dust-trap can be beautiful but the maintenance alone gives me the heebie geebies. Not to mention the pressure of having to add Pinterest Pro to my resume in order to keep them styled perfectly all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are beautiful but you need to know what’s involved before you make such a commitment to your kitchen aesthetic. As parents of four, we know that the reality of your lifestyle must play a role in the design of your custom new home.
The white kitchen trend is a favorite around here because of the clean lines and no clutter feel of the space. I love how this modern farmhouse kitchen incorporates the white cabinets with a striking black island for contrast to coordinate with the custom-made hood cover and decorative beams. Our expert carpenters really went above and beyond with the custom-made details of this stunning home! I spy some custom floating shelves too! The backsplash and pot-filler were not installed at the time of these pictures but trust me – STUNNING!
Kitchen Lighting
Speaking of the white kitchen pictured above, can we take a moment to appreciate all of the lighting? LED recessed lighting to brighten this stunning space, with under cabinet lighting to add a pop of light on the countertops. Perfect details for this kitchen and you cannot help but stop and take it in!
Kitchen Backsplash
Move over subway tile backsplashes – Of late, large slabs are taking over this department. Slabs made of marble, quartz, wood, glass, copper, and stainless steel are having their moment. Again, this is a very personal choice but backsplashes are rising to the ceiling.
When it comes to overall kitchen design, running the backsplash all the way up to the ceiling really gives the room some oomph. It can really give the appearance of a larger kitchen with a dramatic flair! One positive result of the open shelving concept is that homeowners are left with more wall space for these beauties. It’s all about perspective, right!
