Oh, what we wouldn’t do for our beloved furbabies! If you have a dog you already know the joy that our four-legged furry companions add to everyday life.
Dogs are a wonderful source of friendship and love. They also strengthen values like responsibility, loyalty, and empathy. They are family, plain and simple!
As if that weren’t enough good news, with more people working from home these days, dogs are proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and ease loneliness. In fact, The American Heart Association has linked the ownership of pets, especially dogs, with a reduced risk for heart disease and greater longevity.
We certainly aren’t surprised by the endless benefits pups bring to the table. And, we are seeing more and more of our clients adding special rooms dedicated to their furry friends to their custom new home design and we are loving it!
Typically the dog room is off of the mudroom or simply incorporated in the mudroom design. The most popular feature of these doggie-dedicated spaces is dog washing stations, with dedicated crate-space coming in second.
We have an elevated style dog washing station in our house and my 40-something-year-old back is thankful every single time I have to bathe our pups!
Our custom designs are thoughtful and include storage for shampoo and nail clippers, and hooks for towels so they are readily accessible. The more technical part of the dog washing station design includes a handheld sprayer and a bigger drain with a hair filter. A MUST!
And, we love a double-duty space; gardeners rejoice – pet washing stations can double as a great place to water plants, rinse off muddy shoes, and clean gardening tools. 😉
